Oh to be Two

It must be nice to be two. You can change your mind every two seconds about what you want to have and what you don’t. You can yell no at the top of your lungs all day long and demand drinks and toys and food all the time. It must be nice to be two, to point at objects and find enjoyment in hearing your own voice say “kitten,” “house,” “dog,” “bird” ect. To be kissed and cuddled and helped whenever something is stuck or when you pull a toy apart. To be held whenever you ask.

It must be nice to be two. You can show exactly what you are feeling and be completely honest with the world every second of the day,  your truest emotions and sincerest desires just spill right out of you.  If only we all had the innocence and the carefree ability to be completely ourselves all the time, what a different perspective we would have and a what a different world it would be.

It must be nice to be two.  You don’t mind what anyone thinks and everyone thinks you are too cute to mind you. You can sing “Mary had a little lamb” in the middle of the church, your high tiny voice filling the pause after a prayer and you get rewarded with smiles from the big people.   You don’t have to plan out your schedule or what you are going to do today, you just freely eat and play. When mom says it’s time to go, you go wherever she takes you. It doesn’t matter where you go, you will automatically enjoy it because you are with your family. You can fall asleep in the car if you so incline and there is no need to worry because mom or dad will lay you down in your bed when you arrive home.

Oh to be Two

It must be nice to be two. You know without a doubt that someone will always be there for you. Someone will wipe your hands when they are dirty, someone will pick out your clothes for you in the morning, someone will make sure you are fed and warm and safe. And when you are unsure, your big sister will help you go in the right direction, she will take your hand and you can just follow her because she is three and she knows so many more things than you.

You don’t have to worry about a thing because you are two.  You can just keep brightening the world with your smile, your little giggle and your high pitched singing, and that is enough.
