The Ultimate Family Bucket List for an Absolutely Lovely Summer

We have entered the summer season once again and for my family this summer is particularly special. It is the last summer before school begins. Our oldest will start preschool in the fall which will begin a new season of life for us. We will have to adjust our schedule and our routine especially since I stay at home with my kids and before this we haven’t been involved in anything as rigid as the school day rhythm.  We will have to be more prompt, more focused, more organized. It will be a time of transition, both for the four-year-old going to school and the three-year-old being left behind.

So with this transition in mind, I’m trying to make this summer count. Savor the moments, catch the glimmers of ordinary loveliness, and check off many family-oriented activities. Children are only little once and registering for preschool gives me a whole new perspective on the saying “Where does the time go?” It seems hard to believe that my daughter is old enough to send off to school and yet when I look at her, I’m amazed at how grown up she is becoming.

I think she is ready. I hope I am ready. And I’m looking forward to having a lovely summer with her, her little sister and their daddy. After all, we can’t stop time as parents, we can only try to intentionally enjoy the time we are given and hope we don’t miss the moments we have.

  1. This is great! I am expecting my first baby in July, so I wont be able to do a lot of these this summer. I am so looking forward to her growing up so I can do these sort of things with her.

    1. It is really fun once they are old enough to enjoy activities. Mine are 3 and 4 so they are the perfect age for a lot of these. Congratulations on your baby 🙂

  6. I remember that like it was yesterday, that leap from the greatest age for a kid, arguably (4), to going to school. It looks like you guys will seize this summer for all it’s worth. I’d suggest a night of star gazing or a day of cloud watching – or even better yet, both.

  7. Sounds like an exciting time for your family! I’m so glad you are setting out to do a lot to enjoy the time with your young ones and love these ideas!

  8. This is inspiring ! I need to make my own bucket list. The summer goes by so fast and then it’s freezing before you know it.

  9. Hannah, this is a great list, I might have to convince my family to try a few! I love that they help trying to get the kiddos outside to enjoy the summer sun! I’m visiting you today from Monday’s Musings Linkup!

  11. Thanks for the checklist! I see so many fun activities for the family to do. I would probably start off with visiting a splash park, then we would do the family photo session. That’s a cool idea. We’ve haven’t had our photos take together as a family. I think now is a great time, my kids are home from college. 🙂

  12. I love that you have visit a zoo on this list, that’s one of my number one things that I want to do this summer. I’m sure that my little man would love all of the animals!
