I need this reminder all the time because I let feelings of inadequacy, frustration, exhaustion or anxiety get me down. I tend to be a moody person naturally and so it takes an extra effort for me to be joyful. Yet, my children deserve my joy and I must try to be happy for them and with them each and every day. If joy is not cultivated in the home first then how will it flow out from our homes, through our families, into the world? We must choose to be joyful as parents, passing that joy onto our children and fighting against the gloom that tries to snatch away our happiness. For me, this is the great call and great struggle of parenthood.
